Insurance Jobs Singapore
Insurance is a booming industry in Singapore. Two of the most popular jobs in this category include working as an insurance broker and as an insurance claims specialist.
What Does an Insurance Broker Do?
Insurance brokers are agents of large insurance companies working either independently or for the larger company. They work directly with clients seeking for insurance services. To work as an insurance broker you are required to have a license.
Insurance brokers basically provide potential clients with insurance quotes and the best packages they can have for insurance plans. In most cases, they work via telephone, through online portal and websites providing insurance advice, or by visiting potential clients in person. In the course of their work, insurance brokers accept the consumer's personal needs before giving the client the most appropriate quotes. They are professionals in insurance matters and often conduct valuations of the businesses or properties that need to be insured.
This task may also require taking photographs, getting the necessary inspection reports for the property or business, and finding the best rates for the customer. The job entails a high level of ethics and fairness. To work as an insurance broker, you will need to pass around six or seven exams from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority or FINRA, which is a government agency that oversees qualifications for insurance personnel.
What Does an Insurance Claim Specialist Do?
The job of an insurance claim specialist is to facilitate claim processing for the client. The claims specialists must ensure that all the necessary regulations of the insurance claim are followed to the letter before approving the claim. To work as an insurance claims specialist, you may need a college degree. Although the degree is not mandatory, it still boosts your chances of getting hired. The prospective candidate should also have working knowledge with different computer software used to run reports and evaluations in the industry.
Due to the mobile nature of the job, claims specialists should be in good physical shape. They should also be prepared to travel frequently to inspect businesses or properties that have filed for compensation. Teamwork is another key requirement for anyone interested in working as an insurance claims specialist. This is because you are expected to work in a mutually responsible position that involves working together with other insurance professionals as a team. Claims specialists should also be well versed in data entry because each claim they investigate involves entering a lot of information into the overall report.
